Jendouba Farmers' Payment Delays Limit Sugar Beet Growth
Sugar cabbage cultivation in Jendouba and other producing regions faces significant difficulties despite achieving a good yield during the last season, with production reaching approximately 80 tons per hectare. However, the planted areas did not exceed 740 hectares. These hardships are mainly due to delays in disbursing farmers' dues and the lack of some essential inputs such as high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and the machinery necessary for planting and harvesting. The new approach aims to expand the cultivated areas to 3,000 hectares in the upcoming season, but achieving this target depends on resolving funding issues, settling financial obligations, and providing basic resources like irrigation water and equipment. Additionally, ongoing technical guidance and support for farmers are crucial to ensure a strong start and to reach the targeted productivity.
