Octopus fishing ban extended to November 15
The Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources and Fisheries announced an extension of the octopus fishing ban in Tunisia until November 15, 2026, in order to protect fish stocks from overexploitation and ensure their sustainable growth. It was confirmed that the quantities caught have decreased by nearly 62%, from 555 tons in January 2024 to 209.8 tons in January 2025, with restrictions imposed on catching octopus weighing less than one kilogram and a ban on the use of plastic trawl nets in fishing. The sector faces challenges in balancing the protection of fishery resources with fishermen's need to sustain their livelihoods.
