An independent Iranian human rights organization reported that Iranian authorities publicly executed two men, Abu al-Fadl Seibahi Badjani and Amir Hossein Safari Hosseini Abadi, after their detention for participating in widespread protests against the government in Isfahan and other locations between late December and January. The execution was carried out in Ali Khani Square, among 14 individuals condemned in the same case. The detainees were accused of using violence against security forces, possessing weapons, and damaging public property. However, human rights organizations pointed out that the evidence was based on confessions obtained under duress, and officials described the sentences as lawful procedures. These executions come amid Tehran's escalation of sanctions against dissidents following American and Israeli attacks in late February, amid differing international community positions regarding human rights in Iran.
