Egypt enacts laws to curb electricity theft

These efforts are part of the government's initiative to increase deterrence and ensure stable electricity supplies, particularly as the grid recorded a historic peak load of 40.2 gigawatts during a heatwave, without implementing load-shedding programs. The proposed amendments to the Electricity Law are expected to undergo parliamentary discussions to strike a balance between safeguarding public funds and considering citizens' economic circumstances, with a focus on improving distribution networks and minimizing losses to ensure sustainable service.
