Premier League to Broadcast Player and Referee Chats

A new television experiment is currently being prepared for the English Premier League for the 2026-2027 season. It will allow limited audio recordings of conversations between players and referees on the pitch, using head-mounted referee cameras. These recordings will be restricted to footage from broadcasting sources and will not be broadcast live or used in VAR (Video Assistant Referee) reviews. The number of matches in which this technology will be used is expected to increase from 20 last season to around 45, with a gradual rollout before full implementation, as part of efforts to enhance transparency and improve the spectator experience.
