Oil tanker hit and fires in Hormuz

A giant oil tanker was struck and caught fire after passing through the Strait of Hormuz via an unauthorized route, according to the Iranian Fars News Agency. The tanker, which can carry 2.5 million barrels of oil, was hit 8 kilometers off the coast of Oman. British authorities confirmed that they received a report of an attack on a vessel with an unidentified projectile while crossing the strait, with the crew still alive and assessments of damage and environmental impact currently underway. This incident comes amid recent attacks on oil tankers in the strait over the past days, most of which are owned or leased from the UAE, amidst Iranian restrictions on the passage of ships linked to Israel and the United States since late February.
