German Intel Official's Phone Number Leaked

Investigations have revealed that the phone number of the German Federal Intelligence Service's Deputy Head, Dag Bayer, has been available online for years, along with email addresses and his home address in Bavaria. This was the result of a data breach from an American auction company that was subjected to a cyber attack in 2020, leading to the theft of data concerning approximately 3.4 million clients. Despite being aware of the breach, Bayer did not take strong protective measures and used his phone number only sparingly until recently, claiming that it was for family purposes and that it was a mistake. He confirmed that the number has now been corrected. This leak is part of similar incidents where data of other European intelligence figures have been exposed. It is believed that Russian intelligence is exploiting digital espionage techniques, despite Russia's consistent denial of spying allegations against it.
