Iran Oil Minister Mohsen Khojasteh Mehr resigns

The Deputy Head of the Communications Department at the Iranian Presidential Office announced the resignation of Oil Minister Mohsen Khojasteh-Mehr, which President Ebrahim Raisi approved. Hamid Bourd has been appointed as the acting Minister of Oil to temporarily oversee the ministry's affairs. This resignation comes amid a surge in U.S. sanctions against Iran, particularly targeting its oil sector, as the United States has claimed that Iran no longer possesses any floating oil at sea and will not generate revenue from oil sales this week. The move takes place against the backdrop of escalating tensions between Iran and the United States over the strategic Strait of Hormuz and the economic measures and sanctions imposed on Iran.
