Turkish Football Federation President Addresses Referee Scandal

The case revolves around a widespread corruption scandal involving refereeing in Turkish football, where the head of the referees' committee and several staff members have been suspended on charges of manipulation, document forgery, and breach of trust. The scandal is linked to an illegal betting network that had surfaced a year earlier. The president of the Turkish Football Federation, Ibrahim Hacı Oğlu, refused to take responsibility for the ongoing corruption that has persisted for decades, affirming his readiness to bear the blame for the future of Turkish football. Investigations indicate interference in the classification, promotion, and evaluation of referees and matches, after it was proven that the majority of referees in the professional leagues have betting accounts. The investigations and suspensions continue to this day.
