Phoenix: World Formed from a Dying Star
A planet called "Phoenix" has been discovered. It is an extragalactic world born from the remnants of a star slightly larger than the Sun. It orbits a white dwarf about 250 light-years from Earth. This planet is considered a "second-generation" planet, having formed from materials expelled by the star at the end of its life. It exhibits unique characteristics as a gas giant roughly the same mass as Jupiter, orbiting a white dwarf every 4.4 days at a relatively close distance. The intense ultraviolet radiation emitted by the white dwarf has caused part of its atmosphere to vaporize. Researchers used multiple telescopes to study the planet, with plans to use the James Webb Space Telescope to confirm their findings. This discovery reflects that second-generation planets can form from the leftover materials of dying stars, representing the first evidence of a planet forming around a white dwarf.
