CIA Employee Alleged to Steal Millions for Assets

The U.S. Department of Justice has revealed that an employee at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), named David J. Rausch (49 years old), stole approximately $194 million from the U.S. government through a fraudulent scheme in which he exploited his official position. Rausch used the stolen funds to purchase gold bars, real estate, luxury cars, and expensive watches, after fabricating his credentials and leveraging his role to establish phantom entities to obtain the money. In May 2026, authorities seized 298 gold bars, about $2.1 million in cash, along with luxury watches and cars, with the government estimated to have lost only $46 million from the gold bars. He is scheduled to stand trial in January 2027 and faces up to 20 years in prison, along with the confiscation of assets and financial restitution. Officials affirm that abusing official positions for financial fraud is clearly against the law, highlighting the importance of thorough oversight of employee authority.
