Mamdani accuses Israel of Gaza genocide
On the anniversary of October 7, 2023, New York City Mayor Zehran Mmadani accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, expressing his sorrow for the Israeli victims and their suffering from Hamas's crimes, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,100 Israelis and the kidnapping of 251 others. Israel responded to this, with Israeli officials describing it as an attempt to turn the remembrance of the events into anti-Israel propaganda, emphasizing that the Israeli army is taking extraordinary measures to minimize civilian losses and is fighting those who hide behind women and children to use them as human shields. This exchange occurs amid rising polarization over the responsibility for the events in Gaza, with the Israeli society and American diplomats rejecting these claims as false and provocative.
