US finalizes decision on Fort Hood attack execution
The U.S. Department of Defense has decided to broadcast the execution of Nidal Hassan, convicted for carrying out a shooting attack at Fort Hood in 2009, publicly and live online. The execution is expected to be by lethal injection, carried out by a team of soldiers, marking the first public execution of its kind carried out by American forces since 1961. Hassan was sentenced to death in 2013 after a military jury convicted him, following his attack at Fort Hood that resulted in 13 deaths and approximately 30 injuries, as a protest against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Pentagon’s decision to live-broadcast the execution emphasizes the importance of demonstrating the consequences of serious actions, with a focus on the execution serving as a public lesson.
