Yemeni Refugees in Djibouti Face Water Scarcity

More than 3,600 Yemeni refugees in Abuokh camp north of Djibouti are facing difficult living conditions amid temperatures rising above 40°C. They suffer from water shortages that are insufficient to meet their basic needs. The refugees depend on trucked water from wells, but the available quantities are not enough to meet the increasing demand, leading to rapid depletion of water supplies and long waits for their share. The water situation also suffers from a lack of containers and storage equipment, amidst limited efforts by authorities to distribute small daily amounts of water. Humanitarian organizations are working to provide cold water stations to alleviate the effects of the heat, as temperatures continue to rise and the need for potable water increases.
