Ethiopia: Tigray Peace Force Alters Regional Influence

The article discusses the developments in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, noting that the "Tigray Peace Forces," which are aligned with the Ethiopian government and were established in 2025 following splits from the Tigray People's Liberation Front, have managed to control approximately 85% of the region's territory, including the city of Shire, the main stronghold of the front's leader. They have also succeeded in dominating 90-93% of the border area with Eritrea, marking the first achievement of its kind since the Pretoria Peace Agreement in 2022. This come as part of a counter-offensive that began last September, supported by the Ethiopian army in peacekeeping efforts. Clashes are expected to intensify with the Tigray Liberation Front after the capital city, Mekelle, came under their control. Relations with Eritrea are also tense, as Addis Ababa has accused Eritrea of supporting the opposition, amid warnings of a potential broader war erupting in the region.
