September's second hottest month amid El Niño alerts
Last September was recorded as one of the hottest months worldwide, with the second-highest average temperature since records began, reaching 16.27°C, surpassing the previous record for September. This is attributed to the continued influence of the El Niño phenomenon and extraordinary heatwaves, which led to prolonged droughts, a record low water level in European rivers, and a reduction in the extent of ice in Antarctica. Experts warned that exceeding the 1.5°C threshold above pre-industrial levels—an objective of the Paris Climate Agreement—depends on human actions. It is expected that this trend will continue until 2027 unless sufficient measures are taken.
