Palestinians Confirm Election Postponement

Palestinian sources have confirmed that the decision to postpone the legislative elections originally scheduled for November 2023 is final and cannot be reversed, despite French calls for them to be held on time. The reason for the delay, according to these sources, stems from factional consensus and fundamental obstacles related to the political and security conditions, which led President Mahmoud Abbas to issue a decree postponing the elections until further notice, with the possibility of rescheduling if the circumstances improve. This decision has received criticism from France, which emphasizes the importance of holding democratic elections and has called for an assessment of the obstacles by the European Union. Meanwhile, broad Palestinian factional approval of the postponement has been praised, despite opposition from some dissenting groups.
