Ancient Egyptian post-mortem practices revealed

A new study based on a forensic examination of human remains from the Mena region in ancient Egyptian royal tombs has revealed that some of the followers buried with the kings were killed and exhibited serious injuries, suggesting they may have been victims of human sacrifice at the time of their death. The study showed that 39% of the skulls examined contained fatal injuries, with evidence indicating that some individuals were killed shortly before the monarchs, possibly as part of sacrificial rituals. The results confirm that some of these followers may have been deliberately killed as part of religious practices or to demonstrate the rulers’ power, although some deaths could have been natural. The study aims to provide a broader understanding of sacrificial practices in ancient Egyptian civilization and their role in society, with a book on the subject expected to be published in 2027.
