China Boosts Green Hydrogen Projects

China is advancing its efforts to expand the network of green hydrogen centers to support the transition to a low-carbon economy. This shift is from experimental projects, which have been strongly supported by the government since late 2025, to large-scale commercial applications. The hydrogen centers are distributed across regions such as Inner Mongolia, where projects are underway to produce green hydrogen using wind and solar energy, as well as in cities like Shenzhen and Shenchun, which host major companies, massive production projects, and practical applications in both heavy and light vehicles. As a result, there has been a significant increase in green hydrogen production, reaching 12,694 tons in 2025, with projects operating at capacities of up to 80,000 tons annually. The hydrogen industry is valued at more than $7.4 billion, with substantial growth in its use in transportation, aviation, and industrial activities. China is regarded as a global leader in hydrogen manufacturing and is seeking to double its development and application efforts to achieve environmental goals and national energy transition objectives.
