Infantino seeks calm before elections
The article focuses on Gianni Infantino's efforts as President of the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) to restore calm and stability ahead of the upcoming presidential elections, amid political and internal moves to quell the criticism he faces. The report discusses his apology regarding the controversy over the plan to sell World Cup broadcasting rights for $4.2 billion, which he retracted in July, and his failure to provide written evidence of private sector involvement in organizing the tournament—an issue that sparked international division. It also mentions the possibility of a mysterious candidate emerging to challenge Infantino for the FIFA presidency, with strong speculation surrounding prominent names such as Arsène Wenger and Luís Figo. This enhances the likelihood of radical changes in FIFA's leadership and underscores the federation's need for an individual of integrity to restore its reputation.
