Egyptian drivers killed in Khartoum inhibit travel

The article discusses the deterioration of the security situation and its impact on transportation and trade between Egypt and Sudan, amid increasing risks to Egyptian drivers in Sudan following the killing of Egyptian drivers in Khartoum. As a result, many drivers have ceased heading to the affected areas, amid concerns over a decline in trade volume, which reached approximately $1.2 billion in 2024. This is especially worrying as tensions escalate and risks to transportation operations persist. The situation suggests a potential decrease in trade and the loss of significant economic benefits for both countries, despite efforts by the governments of Egypt and Sudan to contain the crisis and reassure drivers.
