FIFA upholds Spain's anti-Muslim chant penalties

The International Football Federation (FIFA) imposed a fine of $20,000 on the Spanish Football Federation due to racist chants against Muslims made by fans during a friendly match against Egypt in March. The chants included repeated slogans of "Who doesn't jump is Muslim." FIFA also decided to close 15% of the stadium's stands for the next match. The Spanish Federation appealed the sanctions to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but the appeal was rejected. It claims that it took action immediately upon discovering the incident, although, in its view, the sanctions are excessive.
