Trump reduces some Russia sanctions

U.S. President Donald Trump issued an executive order exempting Russia from many customs duties on the energy sector and suspending sanctions previously imposed under the 2026 Russia and Iran Sanctions Act. This measure comes ahead of the law's enforcement and includes a suspension of tariffs of up to 100% on the largest Russian oil and gas importers, as well as a halt to restrictions on the Russian oil tanker fleet and the energy and defense sectors. It was also agreed that Russia will immediately begin supplying more than 300,000 tons of diesel, with an increase to one million tons, in exchange for Washington's approval to purchase diesel fuel from Russia, aiming to lower global energy prices—a step intended to reduce fuel costs ahead of the U.S. midterm elections.
