Libyan House Reverses Ties with Turkey

The Libyan House of Representatives unanimously decided to re-endorse the memoranda of understanding with Turkey and to cancel a previous decision to sever political relations with Ankara. The memorandum includes defining the maritime jurisdiction areas in the Mediterranean Sea and was signed in 2019 under the sponsorship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and former Libyan Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj. The council also voted to cancel a 2020 decision rejecting the ratification of the memoranda, a move that reflects the evolving relations between Libya and Turkey and underscores Turkey's commitment to supporting stability and peace in Libya through enhanced dialogue and shared interests.
