U.S. Sees Putin Increasing Sabotage in Europe
U.S. intelligence agencies reveal that the attempt to target Leipzig-Halle Airport in Germany with drones loaded with explosives last August was part of an escalating Russian sabotage campaign against NATO member countries, directly ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The operation aimed at a Ukrainian aid cargo airplane of the Antonov model, which was carrying military supplies to Ukraine. Several drones collided with the aircraft, causing an explosion near the airport. Had the attack succeeded, it could have resulted in human casualties and widespread chaos, potentially prompting Europe to activate Article 5 of the NATO Treaty. These incidents are linked to other acts of sabotage across Europe and are connected by intelligence to a secret Russian unit led by Andrei Averyanov. Authorities suspect that the operations are coordinated by Russian agents funded by Belarus and Serbia, in an attempt to destabilize the NATO region and bolster Russia's efforts against European support for Ukraine.
