The article addresses the ongoing forest fires in Indonesia, which have led to severe air pollution and caused thousands of people to suffer from respiratory illnesses, especially in West Kalimantan on Borneo. Local residents are calling on the Indonesian government to strengthen efforts to combat the fires, as the population faces health, economic, and environmental repercussions due to neglect and inadequate forest management. Currently, a lawsuit is being filed against the government, accusing it of neglect and failure to address the crisis; the suit aims to demand a state of national emergency, provide healthcare, and offer compensation to those affected. This crisis occurs amid continued illegal deforestation through burning and a lack of effective measures to control fires, with concerns growing about cross-border impacts due to the El Niño phenomenon, which intensifies the dry season. The Indonesian president has promised a thorough investigation, while also highlighting the responsibility of companies involved in the crisis.
