Egypt opposes Libya's maritime border agreement
Egypt strongly rejects the Libyan Parliament's ratification of the maritime boundary agreement with Turkey, considering the signed memorandum of 2019 to be invalid and legally null, as it conflicts with principles of international maritime law and undermines Egyptian sovereignty rights in the exclusive economic zone and the continental shelf. Egypt has insisted that the Libyan ratification does not alter its legal stance and reserves its right to protect its rights in accordance with international law, especially since the Libyan House of Representatives in eastern Libya approved the agreement with Turkey, which Egypt and Greece oppose, within the context of a longstanding dispute over energy exploration rights in the eastern Mediterranean.
