Egyptian-Greek oppose Libya-Turkey maritime deal

The Libyan House of Representatives has renewed its approval of the maritime Memorandum of Understanding with Turkey, reigniting regional disputes over border delimitation in the Eastern Mediterranean. Egypt responded to this move with a firm rejection, asserting that the memorandum is invalid and violates international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, reaffirming its right to defend its maritime interests. Greece, the European Union, and Israel also expressed their objections, considering that the agreement infringes on sovereignty and the rights of neighboring countries. Legally, Libya has raised the possibility of resorting to the International Court of Justice to negotiate and protect its rights, demonstrating a willingness to seek peaceful solutions. Meanwhile, the Libyan Parliament canceled two previous resolutions—one rejecting the agreement and another cutting ties with Turkey—while internal and external support for the ratification has grown stronger.
