Asian Confed President Avoids on Infantino

The article discusses the stance of the Asian Football Confederation regarding support or opposition to the re-election of Gianni Infantino as FIFA President, highlighting that the union remains divided on this issue. Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the head of the Asian Confederation, has adopted a neutral position and has not declared a clear stance, even though the votes of the 47 Asian federation members could be decisive in the upcoming elections scheduled for March. Reports indicate that Qatar supports Infantino, while Jordan has announced its opposition, and no other candidates have been announced so far. The article also touches on the electoral maneuvers and Infantino's efforts to garner Asian support, despite facing strong opposition in Europe and backing in Africa. Additionally, Sheikh Salman affirmed that the federation aims to adopt a position that serves the best interest of football overall, amid ongoing preparations to host the Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia, despite regional challenges. The tournament is set to take place in January with 24 teams across three cities, amid concerns that time is short to find an alternative host country.
