Syrian security forces clash with Daesh in Rif Damascus

The security operation in Rankous town in Rif Dimashq, which resulted in the killing of two security personnel and the injury of five others, demonstrates the continued Syrian government's efforts to pursue cells of the "ISIS" organization. The operation was part of joint security efforts to apprehend active terrorist cells in the area, which are believed to be composed of individuals returning from the desert or other regions of the country. Authorities recovered weapons and explosive devices in the possession of the cell. This comes after thwarting plans to target police patrols and dismantling other cells in the Hula and Homs areas. The region, which suffers from marginalization and the spread of illegal activities, remains a hotbed for "ISIS," despite its military defeat in 2019. Its cells continue to operate and execute attacks targeting Syrian security forces.
