Rome seeks details on Italian women detainment in West Bank
The Italian Foreign Ministry has called on Israel to provide urgent clarifications regarding the detention of four Italian women in the West Bank. It is believed that they were arrested while accompanying Palestinian farmers during olive harvesting in the Bubaib village south of Hebron. They were taken to a police station after refusing to comply with soldiers’ instructions and were subjected to questioning for their support of organizations that Israel considers terrorist. According to Israeli police, many of those detained expressed sympathy with statements made by extremist organizations. Italian diplomatic efforts are ongoing to obtain official clarifications amid concerns that they may be expelled from Israeli territory.
