Beni Suef and Abidos expand grid by 1,000 MW

Egypt's Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, announced details of new expansions in solar energy projects in the Aswan region. These include the Benban 2 project with a capacity of 1,000 MW and a battery storage station with a capacity of 600 MW-hours, aimed at increasing the total capacity of the Benban complex to 1,735 MW. Additionally, a digital platform was launched to manage the power plants comprehensively to enhance operational efficiency and planning. A contract was also signed to develop the national electricity grid for monitoring power stations and analyzing their performance. These initiatives are part of Egypt’s efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and increase the share of renewable energy to 45% of its energy mix in the next two years.
