Study Finds Women Lawyers More Affected by Stress
A recent study conducted by the American Bar Association has revealed that female lawyers experience higher levels of anxiety and depression compared to their male colleagues. Specifically, 37% of female attorneys reported experiencing anxiety, compared to 23% of male lawyers. Additionally, 19% of women suffer from symptoms of depression that warrant medical evaluation, versus 15% of men. Intense working hours, gender bias, and the stresses of balancing work and personal life are among the main causes fueling these pressures, along with family caregiving responsibilities. This survey is the first of its kind to focus on the mental health of women in the legal profession and underscores the growing psychological issues they face, which coincide with rising rates of substance abuse and burnout.
