The Spanish authorities announced the dismantling of an international criminal network specializing in smuggling cocaine into Europe. Forty-four individuals were arrested, and 21 tons of drugs were seized. The network relied on funding from investors in Dubai and used commercial shipping containers, particularly from the Port of Guayaquil in Ecuador, to hide the cocaine within shipments of goods, including bananas, in order to transport them by sea to Spain. The investigations took several years and began with raids in Ecuador in March 2025, which resulted in the detention of 36 people. The operation culminated in a joint security effort, supported by Europol and coordinated with Ecuadorian police, to dismantle the network and stop the flow of drugs.
