Water Minister Lounès Boudiaf emphasized that ensuring water security is a national priority in Algeria, particularly in the state of Batna. During the first half of 2026, the region recorded a water production capacity exceeding 305,000 cubic meters per day for drinking water, serving more than 1.54 million residents. The connection rate to the water network reached 96%. Additionally, 92% of households were connected to wastewater networks, and four wastewater treatment plants were operational. Current projects include expanding the water treatment plant at Keddia M'dour Dam and increasing its capacity to 169,000 cubic meters per day, as well as a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 60,000 cubic meters per day for use in irrigation and industry. The minister highlighted the importance of scientific planning, developing digitization systems, and implementing smart management to ensure the continuous and equitable distribution of water. He also stressed the need to accelerate project completion and improve service quality sustainably.
