Algerian efforts in women's protection in Cotonou

The workshop organized by the Algerian delegation at the World Social Forum in Cotonou (Benin) discussed how Algeria addresses the protection of women victims of violence. Nadia Aït Zay, Head of the Center for Children's and Women's Rights, reviewed the policies and mechanisms Algeria has adopted to combat violence, including the national strategy and the legal framework that criminalizes five types of violence and ensures the protection of women in private, professional, and public domains. The Algerian system also presented support mechanisms such as emergency hotlines, reception centers, and the digital platform "Himaati" (My Protect) which allows women to report cases of violence. The workshop aims to share experiences on how to confront this phenomenon as part of the activities of the World Social Forum.
