Trump's tariffs: labor crackdown or bypass
The Trump administration has imposed over 60 countries with tariffs ranging from 10 to 12.5 percent under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, citing inadequate enforcement of forced labor import bans. These tariffs target nations believed to fail in effectively restricting goods made with forced labor, but many countries have challenged the findings as arbitrary and unfounded. The move aims to pressure countries to improve enforcement, although critics argue the evidence behind the tariffs is limited and expect ongoing disputes without immediate relief options.
