Commonwealth Games 2026: Ngake's Journey from Olympian to Cleaner
Madias Ngake, a Cameroonian-born weightlifter, will compete for England at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, 14 years after competing in London 2012. After winning a late Olympic medal due to disqualifications for doping by other athletes, she sought asylum in the UK to escape persecution related to her sexuality in Cameroon. Ngake has since built a new life, returning to weightlifting and achieving international success, including European medals and a podium finish at the World Championships, with aspirations to win gold for her adopted country and compete in the 2028 Olympics.
