US destroyer faces risks after power failure
The U.S. Navy reports a power loss on the destroyer USS Benfold in the South China Sea, caused by an engineering casualty involving its generators. The incident, which lasted four days and required towing to the Philippines for repairs, disrupted essential services aboard the ship but resulted in no injuries. The Navy is investigating the cause amid ongoing operational challenges, including extended deployments and a strained fleet, while the USS Abraham Lincoln remains deployed beyond typical rotations.
