Last-minute bill supports Kroenke arena
A California state lawmaker has proposed amendments to fast-track the development of Midway Rising in San Diego, which plans to replace Pechanga Arena with a new 16,000-seat facility, housing including up to 2,000 affordable units, and commercial space. The legislation aims to streamline environmental reviews and prevent lawsuits by deeming the project's environmental impact report compliant with CEQA. Critics argue that the site is prone to flooding and unsuitable for large development, raising concerns about environmental and community impacts. The proposed changes await legislative approval and still face opposition from local community groups.
