Congress leaders call for probe into California DDT dump
Members of Congress have introduced the Ocean Protection and DDT Reduction Act to address decades of DDT and other chemical pollution from ocean dumping off Southern California. The legislation aims to coordinate efforts to map, monitor, and potentially clean up the contamination, which originates from illegal disposal of waste including barrels of DDT dating back to World War II. The bill proposes funding and scientific research to understand the spread of toxic chemicals and explore remediation options, with a focus on protecting marine life and public health.
