Dodgers and Angels' early report cards
In its first season using MLB’s automated ball-strike challenge system, the Angels performed better than the Dodgers based on challenge success and overall impact, despite the Dodgers’ poor team performance. The system, which enables players to challenge umpire calls via real-time camera tracking, overturned 54% of challenges, with catchers succeeding more often than batters. Success rates varied among players, and some teams with fewer challenges showed higher run-value gains, highlighting that challenge skill does not directly correlate with team success.
