Ohio traffic stop fines for refusal to identify
A new Ohio law requires drivers and passengers to identify themselves to police during traffic stops, with failure to provide name, address, or date of birth punishable by up to 30 days in jail or a $250 fine. The legislation, enacted to address concerns over individuals refusing lawful police requests, also increases penalties for interfering with arrests. Critics argue the penalties are excessive and may lead to legal issues for police, while supporters believe the law enhances law enforcement safety.
