Mass COVID: Experts on Endemic Status
COVID levels in Massachusetts decreased significantly during a three-month period earlier this year, reaching nearly undetectable levels and resulting in record low hospitalizations and deaths. Although levels are now rising slightly with the fall and winter seasons, the severity and impact remain minimal, with infections clearing faster. Experts consider COVID to be transitioning into an endemic respiratory illness similar to the flu, with some caution about potential future variants but generally reduced risks for most populations. Vaccination and testing remain recommended for vulnerable groups, but the threat level has diminished for the general public.
