Southampton plans 9% tax increase
Southampton Town is proposing a $153.9 million budget for the upcoming year, which would increase the property tax levy by over 9%—exceeding the state cap—requiring an override. The budget allocates funds for infrastructure, municipal facilities, and 11 new positions, including police and department employees, with a focus on maintaining high service levels despite rising health insurance and pension costs. The town plans to fund some capital expenses through the operating budget rather than borrowing, while also proposing borrowing for large projects, with the final budget scheduled for adoption before November 20.
