UCLA Police spent $220,020 on drones and less-than-lethal munitions in 2025 and is seeking approval to expand its drone fleet and buy additional projectiles. The department says the equipment would support campus growth, improve emergency response and help prepare for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Critics cite injuries at past campus demonstrations, and UCLA professor Michael Chwe has organized a petition calling for an end to UCPD’s use of 40mm launchers.
