After nearly half a century since the Iranian revolution, the results of the experiment of justifying actions in the name of defending the oppressed and supporting the Shia have become evident. Iranian policies have led to the isolation and a deteriorating economy for the Shia population within Iran, with declining living standards and increasing poverty and unemployment, despite claims of enhancing the regional standing of Shia Muslims. Indicators also show that Iran's spending on development is far below that of the Gulf countries, and Shia youth in Iran suffer from economic and social decline. Meanwhile, Iran's expansionist projects in the region have failed to bring stability or prosperity to Shia communities in Arab countries; instead, they have contributed to weakening the nation-state and deepening divisions. It has become clear that the majority of Arab Shia continue to aspire for stable lives within their homelands, distant from external loyalties.
