Dar al-Ifta Observes New Moon on October 11
The article discusses the Egyptian Dar Al-Ifta's survey to sight the new moon of Jumada al-Awwal 1448 AH after sunset on Sunday, October 11, 2026, to determine the start of the month according to the Islamic criteria. The beginning of Jumada al-Awwal is officially announced based on the moon sighting in accordance with Islamic regulations. This month is considered one of the important lunar months in the Islamic calendar, which relies on the lunar cycle to determine many religious occasions. The name "Jumada" in Arab history is associated with cold and freezing weather, as it coincided with the cold winter and freezing waters. It comes after Rabi' al-Thani and before Jumada al-Thani. The Hijri calendar measures a lunar year that differs from the Gregorian year, as the months shift across the seasons. It is mainly used to determine the seasons of Hajj, Ramadan, and Islamic holidays.
