Supreme Court rejects foreign marriage law challenge
The Supreme Constitutional Court has issued a ruling to dismiss the appeal filed against Article (5) of the Law on Documenting the Marriage of Foreign Nationals to Egyptian Women. This article relates to the regulations governing this type of marriage, aimed at protecting Egyptian women. The court reaffirmed that these conditions are part of public order and must be upheld. It also stated that applying the general rules for proving marriage without considering these conditions undermines the legislator’s objective of safeguarding women’s interests. Additionally, the court clarified that these conditions apply only when registering a new marriage contract and do not apply to re-registering a marriage after a previous divorce.
