The Japanese Nikkei index dropped by about 2% during Thursday's trading, heavily influenced by a decline in technology stocks linked to artificial intelligence. Several companies saw sharp declines, including a 6.6% drop in SoftBank Group's shares. Nevertheless, the broader Topix index experienced a smaller decline of 0.4%, supported by declining oil prices and the stability of other sectors like food and healthcare, which saw increases of up to 15%. Earnings reports from SoftBank Group and Nintendo are expected soon, amid ongoing concerns over the large investments being made in artificial intelligence technologies.
